Steampunk Theme Story
After the hurricane of 2012 power was never restored to the east coast. All life is powered by steam and gadgets we invent along the way, such as compasses to find each of the buildings we use. There are no cars or school buses so we invented airships. We are new at this way of life so we protect our faces with goggles and handcrafted gas masks as we move forward to recreate technology without electricity. Even the most primitive minds among us have turned into mad scientists in a shared quest to survive our new life. Our progress on time machines is slow. Our 21st century clothes wore out long ago so we rummaged through old trunks to wear the garments left behind by Victorian guests after the World’s Fair of 1893. The dated clothes are a blend of the sophisticated elite on the east coast who traveled to the prairies of the Wild Wild West. It’s an odd mix of corsets, top hats, western gear, lace, pocket watches and handcrafted jewelry from the workbench. No black leather, harnesses or chains are allowed for fear of arousing the forest animals during mating season. There is one steely eyed gunman that lives among us who has a strange metal bracelet locked to his wrist. It’s as if he is a Cowboy and Alien all at the same time. In the maintenance shed we found a cornucopia of materials, such as, gears, string, old wood, etc. to create any item of the day we need to add to our outfits or discipline the unruly students in our one room school, which doubles as the nightly saloon. We reluctantly share a few handcrafted revolvers to ward off the bears that visit our little world. We have been stranded at the resort so long that we know the only way we can maintain any structure in life is to use the old-fashioned discipline techniques used years ago; such as OTK spanking, caning, corner time and the usual trip to the woodshed.
